LA Weight Loss: Losing Weight Like They Do In La-La Land

Share |

Okay, so technically they lose weight in La-la land in an entirely different way, but you can at least pretend that you are a Hollywood starlet, while you are heading into the nearest LA Weight Loss center near you. If you are going to do anything at all, you need to make sure you do it with glam-itude.

The diet plan, which features three separate phases also teaches you new ways of thinking about food, including having new food habits that you can continue for the rest of your life.

If you walk into a room full of twenty sports fans and shout "hockey" you will get half of them ranting and raving about the virtues of the sport, their favorite players and the best plays of all times. The other half will gripe and growl and suggest that all hockey fans be taken to the nearest fridge, chucked inside and made to wait for the season to start. It is the same with diet plans. You can't swing a dead cat in a room full of people without hitting at least a few dieters and they will have their opinion of each diet plan you could possibly mention to them. Personal opinions and horrible mental images aside, we will get to the pros and cons of the La Weight Loss diet plan in a moment. But first, here is this brief look at the plan and its history.

The LA Weight Loss Plan and History
This is a center based plan, meaning that during each phase of the diet you will have to commit to coming in, for the agreed upon number of times for weigh-ins and counseling sessions. You will review your food choices and menu plans, have your progress checked and receive guidance and suggestions from your personal weight loss coach. These are not certified or registered dieticians or nutritionists, but rather successful participants of the LA Weight Loss Plan that receive training from the company.

During your meetings, you will discuss more than immediate weight loss. The focus is also on long term weight management, eating habits and your own emotional attachments to food. You are encouraged to keep a food journal so that you can learn to identify your own food patterns and problems

  1. The phase one of the diet focuses on beginning the weight loss process and making better food choices. This phase will help to identify three issues: menus and food choices, movement (most importantly getting more activity during each day) and mindset. During the first phase, it is recommended that you visit the counselor three times each week for guidance, support and education.
  2. Phase two is six weeks of stabilization with a very slow increase of calories. During this phase, you continue to see your counselor, twice per week.
  3. Phase three is the maintenance phase. You only have to see the counselor one time per week and you are strongly encouraged to continue with the center's program for a full year to make sure that you continue to keep the weight off.

The LA Weight Loss Pros
This is not a plan that focuses on ultra rapid and non sustainable weight loss. Instead, you are given a solid foundation in healthier, long term food choices. The premise of using a food journal allows you to see where you are lacking in good choices and where you might be getting the majority of your calories each day. The calorie count and nutrient breakdown for this plan is within reason and deemed healthy in comparison to others.

Counseling offers real support from someone who has been in a similar position and understands. An in-depth questionnaire helps you and the counselor get a grip on your eating habits and emotional attachments to food. One-on-one time with a counselor rather than in a group meeting, may ease the self consciousness of some dieters.

The food on the food plans is available at the local grocery store and can be supplemented with LA Weight loss branded supplements, snacks, bars and juices.

The food plan focuses on portion sizes rather than on calorie counts.

The LA Weight Loss Cons
While the counselors may be supportive to the dieters, they may not have the right training to recognize certain medical conditions or to truly recommend real and lasting, safe diet plans for people with those conditions. These counselors also earn commission on the supplements and other products that they sell so some may become a little pushy at times.

In addition to the lack of training for the counselors, it should be noted that there is no other method of support with LA Weight loss - you come in to the center for the recommended counseling sessions, period! There are no counselors that can be reached by phone, email or online at all. There are no support groups or forums to turn to if there are questions of any kind.

In addition to a lack of support and the potential for very pushy counselors, the diet plan may be too strict for many people to follow to the very end. There is also not enough information given for the foods that are recommended nor is there enough encouragement for exercise.
