Three Day Diet : The Case of the Mysterious Diet of Mystery

Share |

You get bad poetry that is written and then signed "anonymous". Pretty girls get packages from shy boys all of the time with "secret admirer" as the signature. But, who ever heard of a diet being authored by someone and then no one stepping up to take the credit or the blame for it? Who ever heard of someone not wanting to write the definitive book about the diet, go on all of the talk shows, tout the successes with the latest, hot celebrities and be the talk of the town, at least until the next big thing comes along? What can you say about a diet that is little more than a fad? This one might be a fad, but apparently it is a fad that has real stamina - it has been around and making the weight loss circuit since 1985.

The Three Day Diet Premise
According to "people" the Three Day diet will allow you to lose up to ten pounds in about three days, if you follow the plan exactly as it is written. The foods that are listed must be eaten without exception. The portion sizes are there in black and white and must be followed.

You are not allowed to deviate from the foods in any way for the full three days. According to, again, "people," you eat these foods in the combination and in the amount that is prescribed because they have a unique metabolic reaction and will literally force the weight to just melt off of you.

After following the three day, ultra restrictive eating plan for three days you go back to normal eating for four days so that your metabolism will not drop. Your calorie count for the three days on is around 1000 - there is nothing mentioned about your four days of "off" dieting.

Bad Premise, No One to Point Fingers At
This fad diet claims that is will give you quick weight loss, cleansing, lower your cholesterol and increase your energy, however there are absolutely no explanations of how any of this happens. There is no author to this diet, no one claiming to have devised it. There is no book, e-guide, pamphlet or diagram to refer back to. There is no magical gateway back to the mid 80's to figure out who originally conceived of this plan.

There is no scientific evidence that backs anyone's or in this case no one's claim that foods, eaten together in certain and specific amounts set off a metabolic reaction, unique or otherwise. And the problems do not stop there.

Any diet that suggests that you can eat in a very restrictive manner for a set number of days and then eat as you usually do and still lose weight is hogwash. If you had any control over your eating in the first place you would not be looking for a fad diet at all. That being said, who is to say that you would not eat double, triple or even quadruple what you usually eat on those four days? Even if you do manage to lose weight on the three days - weight that is more than water by the way, you would gain it all right back and then some when you went back off of it for the four days.

A diet this restrictive is doomed - especially when it also has so few calories. Not only will you be practically starving for those three days that you are following the diet, you will be in danger of shutting your metabolism down completely.

No mention of exercise is made with this plan which is good because at 1000 calories per day, you would be too weak and tired to do much anyway.
